Course 59 Graduates - 9 December 2014

Course 59 had a mix of Colombian and Burmese, Porirua-based, refugees who had missed out on previous Refugee Computers in Homes courses. One of our e-Learning Porirua trustees, Douglas Harre, was there to present the certificates to the graduates. Congratulations to all 23 graduates and their families and best wishes for the future.

Previously a teacher and secondary school principal, I am passionate about addressing issues of inequality and injustice.

I believe Computers in Homes is one of the only programmes that helps bridge the learning relationship between home and school, while at the same time, helping to bridge the digital divide.

The Porirua City Community IT Education Trust (PCCITET), more widely known as e-Learning Porirua, was established in 2001.

The Trust aims to help bridge the digital divide (this aim is a catch cry and part of our logo) by training families in computer skills to give them the confidence and tools to gain a job and therefore reduce unemployment, while also improving students achievement levels in the City’s low decile schools.

Computers in Homes works with low decile schools, helping students and their families use internet, email and computers at home, school and work.

Between July 2014 and June 2015, we helped 1,760 families from 378 schools and kura. We've helped over 15,000 families since we started.
