Porirua Computers in Homes: Course 25

A very interesting course and great success in term 3 of 2007. 31 families worked hard to achieve the course requirements and graduated at the end of the term with attendance certificates and computers.

Previously a teacher and secondary school principal, I am passionate about addressing issues of inequality and injustice.

I believe Computers in Homes is one of the only programmes that helps bridge the learning relationship between home and school, while at the same time, helping to bridge the digital divide.

The Porirua City Community IT Education Trust (PCCITET), more widely known as e-Learning Porirua, was established in 2001.

The Trust aims to help bridge the digital divide (this aim is a catch cry and part of our logo) by training families in computer skills to give them the confidence and tools to gain a job and therefore reduce unemployment, while also improving students achievement levels in the City’s low decile schools.

Computers in Homes works with low decile schools, helping students and their families use internet, email and computers at home, school and work.

Between July 2014 and June 2015, we helped 1,760 families from 378 schools and kura. We've helped over 15,000 families since we started.
