If you want to highlight one line: click the selection area to the left of the line.
If you want to highlight a paragraph: double-click the selection area to the left of any line in the paragraph, or triple-click anywhere in the paragraph.
If you want to highlight a sentence: hold down the Ctrl key and click anywhere in the sentence.
If you want to highlight one word: point your mouse to the word and double click your left mouse button.
